Stands
What is it with fish tank stands? To my mind they have two uses, the primary one being to provide a firm, stable and level base upon which to stand your tropical fish tank. The second use is to be aesthetically pleasing, to fit in with the rest of the decor in your home, office or restaurant. In short, wherever you plan to display your tank.
As with most aspects in life, your best bet is to shop around for your stand. Use both on- and off-line resources and be ruthless. Don't buy a tank and stand combination just because the person selling them tells you it's a good deal. What else do you expect him to say? Look also to flat-packed stands rather than ready assembled ones - these are easier to transport and more than likely cheaper - putting it together shouldn't tax you over much
Pound for pound (in weight) a metal stand is likely to be cheaper than a wooden one, but possibly less aesthetically pleasing. Aluminium is better for lighter tanks; steel fits the bill at the heavier end. If wood is your preferred choice, then look to a product that you can paint, or a veneered one. If money really is no object than a solid hardwood stand will last for years and look gorgeous - and hold your fish tank!
TOP TIP
If you are going to assemble a flat pack or make your stand yourself, a spirit level is an essential piece of kit.
